· BRACKNELL RFC U16s Girls National cup game v Wimbledon Bracknell U16s girls gave Wimbledon their toughest game of the seasonOur third National Cup game would be the pool winner decider, and the winner would advance to the next round. We knew it would be a tough game and Wimbledon had been producing some impressive score line in most of their games and the Bracknell girls need to be ready from the 1st whistle. The game had already been rained off the week before, which added to the girl's nerves and parents excitement.Due to the location and 11am kick off it was early start on a sunday morning and the conditions were perfect,The game kicked off and both teams attacked and defended against each and a great turnover in our own 22 led to some quick passing and our winger used her pace to get around her ops winger and run the full length of the pitch and was only stopped from scoring by a fantastic cover tackle to hold the ball up over the line. Wimbledon kicked their goal line and we knocked on and then are couple of strong carries by their forwards and fastback play saw Wimbledon scored in the corner but didn't convert. 5 - 0 , From a deep kick off Bracknell, were able to tackle on the 22 and make Wimbledon play out of their own half and when a cross-field kick went into touch, Bracknell shortened their line out and used an overlap in the midfield to put our 12 into space who was able to run down the middle of the pitch and was tackled 5 meters out, quick clear out by our supporting full-back saw the quick ball for our number 13 to pick up and attack the line to score. The conversion was taken by our 15 and the score was 7 - 5 to Bracknell. The 1st half was coming to a end when Bracknell players switched off and made an unforced error and turned the ball over just outside their own 22 and Wimbledon's fly half saw an opportunity and attacked the space to score, The half finished 10 - 7 to Wimbledon. The second half started poorly for Bracknell with too many unforced errors allowing Wimbledon to score 2 tries within the first 10 minutes. The score was 20 - 7 and there was the risk the floodgate might open, The girls had a huddle under to post and said they needed to wake up and get back in the game. This seemed to spark them back into life and the next 10 mins were all about the Bracknell girls attacking and defending to force mistakes and the pressure resulted in a Bracknell score by our flanker in the corner 20 -10, Sadly Winblebon managed to get one more breakaway try in the last minute to finish the game 25 to 10 winners. The game was great to watch and both sets of players gave their all, The girls awarded Bracknell players player to our 12 and the coaches awarded out 15 the coaches award. We finished 2nd in our pool and will drop into the regional Cup in the new year,Report by Daimon Evans Image Bracknell RFC
